Philip Roger Roy

Philip Roger Roy has been producing shows, and has owned theaters since 1972, including Philadelphia’s legendary Grendel’s Lair Cabaret (1972-1987), the Newmarket Cabaret Theater (2000-2003), and the Penn’s Landing Playhouse (2013-2017). In 1977 Mr. Roy’s father, Charles Roy incorporated LeRoy Associates Inc. as an advertising agency. Upon his death in 2004, Philip inherited the company and expanded its business model to include the producing of theatrical shows in addition to advertising & marketing them.
Current tours to more than 16 cities in the USA include OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES; MY MOTHER’S ITALIAN MY FATHER’S JEWISH & I’M IN THERAPY!; THE SECRET COMEDY OF WOMEN; and MY SON THE WAITER: A JEWISH TRAGEDY which he also produced in New York City.
Other recent shows include RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women; COOKING WITH THE CALAMARI SISTERS; NORA EPHRON’S LOVE LOSS & WHAT I WORE; WAISTWATCHERS THE MUSICAL; MAURICE HINES IN TAPPIN’ THRU LIFE; MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL (Phila.); BECOMING DR. RUTH; and A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN (also produced in New York City). Earlier in his career he produced LET MY PEOPLE COME in 21 cities including 10 years in Philadelphia and 8 years in Toronto, as well as THE WORLD of LENNY BRUCE; PRETZELS (by Jane Curtin); CONFESSIONS OF AN IRISH REBEL; EL GRANDE DE COCA COLA; CLOUD 9; SCOTT JOPLIN & FRIENDS: A RAGTIME MUSICAL; GROUCHO: A One Man Show with Two Women; and dozens of other shows. He promoted hundreds of music events including Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Charlie Byrd, Charles Mingus, Mose Allison, Pat Martino, Buffy St. Marie, Phil Ochs, The Police, Renaissance, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Odetta, Fairport Convention, Tim Hardin, and many more.
In the post-Covid world, Mr. Roy looks forward to resuming the National Tours of his shows which were abruptly halted in March of 2020.
